  • This guide is only meant for Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus. Do not try this on other Android phones.
  • Enable USB Debugging from Developers Menu
  • Make sure you have all the drivers installed.
  • Maintain at least 60% battery before following the procedure
  • Make sure the connection between PC and mobile phone is good. Don’t use lose cable
  • Follow the guide step-by-step and completely.

Procedure:

Note: ONLY PROCEED if BOOTLOADER is UNLOCKED.

  1. Please download all the necessary files required to root Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus from above section
  2. Once downloaded, place all the files in one folder only
  3. Install Motorola Device Manager – [eafl id=”1946″ name=”motorola device manager” text=”DOWNLOAD”]
  4. Connect your phone to the device manager so it can install necessary drivers
  5. Power off your Moto G5 or Moto G5 Plus
  6. Boot into Bootloader – Press Volume Down + Power Key
  7. Connect the phone to the PC with USB Cable
  8. Keep your phone aside keeping it connected to the USB Cable
  9. Go to your computer and open the folder where you have placed all the downloaded files
  10. You should see 4 files (TWRP for your Moto G5 or Moto G5 Plus, ADB, Magisk, and no-verity)
  11. Extract ADB Folder
  12. Copy TWRP .img file of your device. If its Moto G5 – podder, Moto G5 Plus – cedric
  13. Go to extracted adb folder and paste inside the folder
  14. Press Shift + Right Click > Open Command Prompt Here
  15. You’ll see command prompt window
  16. Now Copy and Paste this Code into the Command Prompt Window
  17. For Moto G5 Plus – fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.0-0-potter.img
  18. For Moto G5 – fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.0-0-cedric.img
  19. Press Enter
  20. You’ll see some process running and being finished
  21. Once it is done, take your phone and use Volume Key to navigate to Recovery Mode
  22. Press Power button to Select
  23. Phone will automatically Reboot
  24. You can remove the USB cable now
  25. Once the reboot is complete, TWRP window will open
  26. Swipe to Allow Modifications
  27. Select Wipe > Swipe to Factory Reset
  28. Once done, go back to main screen of TWRP
  29. Select Reboot > Recovery > Tap Do Not Install
  30. Once the reboot is done, connect your Moto G5 or Moto G5 Plus to PC by USB Cable
  31. Your phone will be connected to external device storage and will show up on your PC
  32. Head back to the PC and open the Folder where you have downloaded all the files
  33. Copy Magisk v14.zip and no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip to the Internal Storage of your Moto G5 or Moto G5 Plus
  34. Once the files are copied, move to your phone for further steps
  35. Tap Install > no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip > Swipe to Flash
  36. Once done, Press Back (DON’T REBOOT) and head over to main screen of TWRP
  37. Tap Reboot > Power Off > Do Not Install
  38. Reboot to Bootloader – Press Volume Down + Power Key
  39. Use Volume Key to navigate to Recovery Mode and Press Power Key to Select
  40. Tap Install > Magisk v14.zip > Swipe to Install
  41. Go to Main Screen of TWRP > Reboot > System > Do Not Install
  42. Setup your device as New Device
  43. Once completed, install Magisk Manager [eafl id=”1950″ name=”magisk manager” text=”OFFICIAL DOWNLOAD”]
  44. Install Root Checker to Confirm
  45. You have successfully Rooted your Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus Android 7.0 Nougat with TWRP and Magisk
